Food in Zanzibar – genuine, fresh, local

Welcome to ZAHRAZANZI's small, fine world of enjoyment: Here, the focus is not on luxury, but on authentic, lovingly prepared food with fresh, regional ingredients.

Breakfast

A simple but fresh breakfast is served every morning. Depending on the season, this includes:

  • tropical fruits

  • freshly baked bread or chapati

  • Eggs as desired

  • Coffee or tea

Breakfast is included in the overnight price or can be flexibly booked for longer stays.

Dinner

In the evening, you can enjoy a traditional Zanzibari menu, freshly prepared by Sara and local chefs. Typical dishes include:

  • aromatic pilau rice

  • Coconut beans

  • Vegetable curries

  • grilled fish or meat

  • with exotic spice blends

Dinner is available upon reservation and costs USD 15–20 per person. Vegan or vegetarian options are available.

Cooking class

If you want to delve even deeper, you can take part in an authentic cooking class.

  • Duration: approx. 2–3 hours

  • Price: 15–20 USD per person

  • Focus: typical Zanzibar spices, street food, basic recipes

  • cook together, enjoy together

Sara will show you, along with local women, how pilau, chapati, and urojo (Zanzibar street soup) are made — and will tell you a lot about the island's culture, spices, and food history.
